Big Bang
Big Bang is formed by YG Entertainment. They are often called as one of the most influential boy group to shape the K-pop industry by helping spread the Korean Wave internationally. Their songs always top the chart when they are released.
INFINITE
Established in 2010, INFINITE is the perfect representation of what kpop is about. It’s an intense band with stunning choreography. Every new video takes their steps to a brand new level. The group has received numerous awards over the past years.
SHINee
SHINee was first heard of in 2008. It features five members and some of their albums topped charts in multiple countries. They received the Most Popular Star – Album Division in Golden Disc Awards in two consecutive years – 2016 and 2017. The group is extremely popular in Japan as well.
Highlight
Highlight came to life in 2009 as Beast. In 2016, one of the members left, so the band features five members now. Their debut track “Plz Don’t Be Sad” topped most Korean charts for weeks. It also made Highlight the first boy group to secure the first position in MelOn’s weekly chart in 2017.
Super Junior
Formed in 2005, Super Junior started as a large group of 13 members. However, a few of them left the group in 2010. Over the past few years, more of its members had to leave the group and complete the military service. They’re expected to make a massive comeback these days, as most of them have finished the service.
Seventeen
Quite new on the kpop scene, Seventeen was first heard of in 2015. The group is better known for producing everything on its own. Its members are responsible for the choreography and songs – lyrics and music. It’s split into three different units – performance, vocal and hip-hop.
JBJ
JBJ is short for Just Be Joyful and features six members. The group came to life at the members’ fans’ requests. They all participated in the second season of Produce 101 – a popular survival show in South Korea. Quite new on the scene, the first mini album “Fantasy” was released in the fall of 2017.
BTOB
Created in 2012, BTOB stands for Born To Beat. It’s certainly a different trend in kpop, as the band is mostly focused on deep ballads. Apart from working as a group, each member also has a few solo tracks. It’s part of a comeback campaign.
Wanna One
Wanna One was created in the summer of 2017 as a result of the Produce 101 survival show. The group is scheduled to promote until the winter of 2018 only. It represents the first group to have a debut show on Gocheok Sky Dome. Tickets sold out.
EXO
EXO came to life in 2011 and started producing in 2012. There were initially twelve members. Only nine of them are still in the group. EXO gained notoriety after it won the Album Of The Year Award at Golden Disc Awards four consecutive times. It was ranked the most powerful celebrity by Forbes Korea in 2014 and 2015.
BTS
BTS stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan, yet the group is known in English speaking countries as Beyond The Scene. It was established in 2013 and won the Grand Award at Seoul Music Awards in 2017. The seven members are also known for being the first kpop group to make it to the top 10 iTunes chart in the USA.
