15 Best Male RPG Characters

It is hard to tell what the best male character from classic RPGs is. After all, each character has its own characteristics and capabilities. However, a good male character can definitely transpose into the player’s style. As a player, you want your male character to be handsome, brave, powerful, honorable, and so on. With all these, some names do stand up in the crowd.

Crono – Chrono Trigger (1995)

At a first glance, a hero who never speaks is less likely to become one of your favorites. But Crono (the main protagonist from Chrono Trigger) can prove that actions are more important than words.

His blade leaves no enemy behind, but his courage is also underlined by his sacrifices and altruism. To many players, this is the classic hero. He saves princesses, prevents disasters, and does not back off from sacrificing himself for humankind. What else can you ask for?

Commander Shepard – Mass Effect Series (2007-2012)

Commander Shepard is the Citadel hero for Mass Effect Series fans. There is no doubt that he makes a perfect male character. He has both words and actions. Once you end up controlling this character, you want to be part of him.

You want to follow him and actually do your best to succeed. However, he is not the friendly type. At some point or another, his charisma makes him unsupportable, whether it comes to his friends or allies. Other than that, his leadership skills bring in one victory after another.

Jon Irenicus – Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn (2000)

A leading male character does not necessarily have to be a positive one. Sure, most negative characters are alike, but some villains can definitely draw some attention. Jon Irenicus is not the type of villain who kills people for fun and entertainment. He does not do it for the money either. Although the story of Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn starts with him torturing you, you learn that he has become evil due to his love for a woman. Hiro – Lunar: Eternal Blue (1995)

Hiro is the old-fashioned hero who leads. He does exactly what you might expect from a hero. He is not the type with a dramatic past, a funky hairstyle, a mysterious aura, or a secret lifestyle.

Everything floats around his daughter though. The hero has to rescue her from some harmful creatures. Going through this adventure by his side will boost your family spirit as well.

Ethan Mars – Heavy Rain (2010)

Family guys seem to gain plenty of loyalty in RPGs and Ethan Mars makes no exception either. His mission in Heavy Rain is fairly simple – he needs to do whatever it takes to rescue his kidnapped son. The story begins with a beautiful family – a married man and two kids.

After a series of unhappy events, he ends up with one son only – and he gets kidnapped.
