The Fine Print Meta Hopes You'll Skip
Consider the timing. Business Insider reported this week that Meta's AI bets are swallowing almost all of its free cash flow. Data centers, silicon, talent, and model training now consume what used to be the company's famous profit machine. A glasses update is cheap. The expensive part is the model behind it, and the model only gets smarter if millions of people wear the hardware and feed it real-world data.

Who Really Wins When AI Lives on Your Face?
Meta's bet is that wearables are the next platform, and that Muse Spark, not Llama, is the engine that wins it. The company has been swapping Llama 4 for Spark across its Ray-Ban and Oakley lines, and it claims daily usage of its glasses has roughly tripled year over year. Those are the numbers worth watching, because they say more about whether people actually use these things than any demo does.
The honest answer is that consumers probably win a little. A smarter assistant that can see, plus hands-free social feeds, is a real improvement over the previous generation. Gizmodo's headline this week said it plainly: the old smart glasses AI was dumb, and now it is dumb no more.
