How To Redeem A Google Play Gift Card Outside Of The US

Although Google Play Store cards can be redeemed in the U.S. and U.K., the ability to redeem them anywhere else has not been set in place by Google. However, there are ways around this. If you want to know how to redeem a Google Play Gift Card outside of the U.S., there are a few simple steps that you need to follow.

If you don’t want to read the long text, try these simple steps:

  1. Use a VPN service and switch the location to the US.
  2. Clear the cache by accessing Settings > Apps > Google Play Store, then choosing Force Stop > Clear Cache and Data.
  3. Exit and relaunch Google Store.
  4. Access Google Store’s Settings on the top left screen.
  5. Tap Redeem.
  6. Enter your code.
  7. Click on Redeem.

That’s it. Congratulations on redeeming your gift card internationally!

Redeeming Your Google Play Gift Card

Step 1: Switch your proxy to US one

Having your Google Play Store redeemed begins by changing your computer’s IP by using a VPN provider. Once you’ve downloaded the program and signed in, you’ll want to choose the US proxy, and bring the switch over to the “On” selection.

Step 2: Access Google Wallet and change your country

Next, visit http://wallet.google.com and access “Preferences” by clicking on the Gear icon at the top right corner. Your home address and other information will now be on display.

Change your country to indicate that you’re from the United States, and then construct an artificial U.S. address and phone number in place of what you had before.

Make sure the new address you’ve created is properly saved. If you find it difficult to come up with an address to redeem your card, then you should do some research on Google. Find actual addresses, and create one that could pass for the real thing.

You’re also going to need to create a fake U.S. address in the payment section. You’ll next need to put down the information for your new credit card. Save these details, and be sure that the new credit card you’ve entered has been set up as the default card. This is particularly important.

Step 3: Redeem

You’re almost done. Head over to the Google Play section. You’ll find an option that will allow you to redeem the Google Play Gift Card in your possession. If you have entered all of the information required of you correctly, then you should be able to have the card redeemed without any problems.

You should be all set. Remember that the primary address you’ve entered cannot be altered or changed, until such time as you’ve exhausted the balance on the card in question.

No one knows for certain if Google is ever going to expand these cards to include people from locales besides the United States and the United Kingdom.

Nonetheless, by following the simple rules that have been illustrated here, you can enjoy all of the same benefits of these cards as other players can. Redeem your card, and start enjoying everything Google’s play section has to offer.

  1. It’s surprisingly easy! Just log into Google Play on your desktop or laptop. Add items to this shopping cart, which you intend on distributing the gift card for. At checkout, scroll down and select “other” as your payment method. Then copy-paste in your gift card code where it says “Gift Card Code”. You may only use one gift per order so be sure to distribute them accordingly.

  2. Does it work for japan region gift cards as well? i changed IP to Japan and added JP address/Country at the payment section. But when i still cant redeem the JP gift card. Do i need to wait 24h?

      1. Thanks for the reply. My particular case was about an ingame purchase so it was extra sensitive. I managed it by creating a new US based account (with VPN) and redeemed the codes. Linked the account to my phone and the linked the game to that account. I deleted my original Google account and left only the US one. I used an emulator for the next step cause Tunnelbear still couldn’t hide fake a US connection via phone (I think carrier gives it away, there are workarounds but they’re messy and might require root). I opened up the emulator, started Tunnelbear VPN. Fired up the game, used the currency to complete the purchase and done.

Now that last part was necessary cause of it being an ingame purchase. If you just want to buy a game, music, book or whatever, I think you can skip the last part really. Once you’ve redeemed the codes, you can just go to use the currency in that same instance. Add your phone, download, done.
