Aqara Hub M3

Smart Home Automation, Matter Controller, Thread Border Router, Zigbee Hub, Local-First Automation, IR Control, HomeKit Bridge

Overview

The Aqara Hub M3 is a flagship multi-protocol smart home hub that combines Zigbee 3.0, a Thread Border Router, and a Matter controller and bridge in a single compact puck. It runs automations locally via edge computing, so core routines keep working during internet outages, and it can migrate devices from older Aqara hubs without re-pairing. A built-in 360° IR blaster with learning and feedback lets it control traditional appliances and even expose IR air conditioners to Matter as a thermostat when paired with a Climate Sensor. With no microphone or camera and end-to-end encrypted 8GB local storage, it prioritizes privacy while connecting up to 127 Thread/Zigbee devices across Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings.

Key Highlights

  • Multi-protocol hub combining Zigbee 3.0, Thread Border Router, Matter controller + bridge, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, and a built-in 360° IR blaster — supports up to 127 Thread/Zigbee devices
  • Edge computing runs automations locally on-device, keeping the smart home working even during internet outages; can supersede older Aqara hubs with easy device migration
  • Dual power options: Power over Ethernet (PoE 48V ⎓ 0.27A) or USB-C 5V ⎓ 2A with mini-UPS / power bank support for uninterrupted operation during power outages
  • Privacy-focused design with no microphone or camera, 8GB end-to-end encrypted local storage, and WPA3 Wi-Fi security
  • Smart IR blaster with feedback and learning — exposes IR-controlled air conditioners to Matter and functions as an AC thermostat when paired with the Aqara Climate Sensor
