Causes
- You are in Fan mode, not a cooling mode — The 2S Pro has four modes: Hyper Mode (Instant Chill Full), Cool (levels 1–3), Fan, and Heat. In Fan mode the semiconductor plates are off and you only get airflow — a one-star buyer review of the identical COOLiFY 2S captures the confusion exactly: "Even on the highest cooling and fan settings, it feels just like regular air blowing from a fan." The green light means Fan; cooling modes show blue, and Hyper Mode is the strongest setting. If the plates never get cold, the first thing to check is which mode the display is actually showing.
- The cooling plates aren't touching your skin — The 2S Pro cools through two semiconductor plates that must sit flat against the back of your neck; the airflow is secondary. If the dual-axis hinge is adjusted too loose, the collar rides low, or you wear it over a hood, thick collar, or long hair bunched under the plates, the cold is generated but never reaches your skin — it feels like "no cooling" even with the plates running at full tilt. TORRAS's own FAQ notes that skin contact is central to how the device works.
- Expectation vs. physics in extreme heat outdoors — Tech Advisor tested the 2026 lineup on a 20-minute walk at 92°F / 33°C and "couldn't feel much benefit even with the device turned to maximum fan cooling," while the same unit was "much better appreciated" indoors. A wearable TEC cooler chills the skin at the neck; it is not a room air conditioner, and in blazing direct sun with high ambient heat the cooling sensation is far weaker. A "not cooling" report from an outdoor festival or a 35°C+ commute is usually this, not a fault.
- Low battery throttles the cooling plates — Below roughly 20–30% charge the 2S Pro's power management reduces cooling output to protect the battery and stretch runtime. The plates get lukewarm instead of cold, and Hyper Mode may not engage at all. The smart LED display shows the battery level — if it is low, the weak cooling is intentional.
- Dirt, oil, or a protective film on the plates — The semiconductor plates pick up skin oils, sunscreen, and dust from daily wear. A greasy film acts as an insulator that stops the cold from conducting into your skin. Some units also ship with a thin protective film on the plates that owners miss; leaving it on makes the collar feel like it never cools.
- A faulty TEC module (rare, but real) — A defective semiconductor cooling plate or its driver circuit produces no cold at all — not "less cold," but zero cold even on a full battery in a cool room. When the plates stay at room temperature on a fresh charge in a mild environment, the module itself is at fault.
How to Fix
- Verify the mode and light color — Look at the smart LED display: green = Fan (no cooling plates), blue = Cool, orange = Heat. Press the power/mode button until you are in Cool (blue) mode, then press again to cycle Cool levels 1–3, or select Hyper Mode (Instant Chill Full) for the strongest effect. Wait 30–60 seconds — the plates take a moment to reach full cold after switching modes.
- Check the battery level first — If the display shows the battery under about 30%, charge the collar to at least 50% (the included L-shaped USB-C cable works with any 20W USB-C charger; you can also wear it while it charges). Retest cooling after charging. If cooling returns at full charge and fades as the battery drops, that is normal power management, not a defect.
- Adjust the hinge for firm plate contact — Open the dual-axis hinge so both cooling plates press flat and snugly against the back of your neck, with the collar sitting up high rather than drooping toward your shoulders. Remove hoods, thick collars, or hair from between the plates and your skin. You should feel the plates themselves getting cold against your neck, not just air movement.
- Clean the cooling plates — With the collar off, wipe both semiconductor plates with a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth to remove skin oil, sunscreen, and dust, then dry them. Check for and peel off any thin transparent protective film on the plates (it can be easy to miss on a new unit). Re-test cooling on Cool level 3 in a room-temperature environment.
- Test in a controlled environment — Sit in a shaded or air-conditioned room at 24–28°C, put the collar on with firm plate contact, and run Cool level 3 for 2–3 minutes. If you feel a clear cold sensation on your neck, the unit is working correctly and the "no cooling" you experienced outdoors was ambient-heat limitation — use Hyper Mode and keep the plates in direct skin contact in hot outdoor conditions.
- Rule out app or firmware interference — If you have been controlling the collar from the TORRAS app, confirm the app's intensity slider is not pinned to a very low value (the app remembers the last setting, which can override the physical buttons). Update the app, and check for any collar firmware update in the app, then power-cycle the device by holding the power button until the display turns off and on again.
- Contact TORRAS support if the plates never get cold — If, on a full charge, in a cool room, in Cool/Hyper mode with clean plates pressed against your neck, the plates still stay at room temperature, the TEC module is defective.
