How to Fix the Levoit Superior 6000S Leaking Down One Side When Running

💻 Device: Levoit Superior 6000S Smart Evaporative Humidifier 🗓 Added

Causes

  • The unit is not sitting on a flat, level surface — The Superior 6000S is a tall, wheeled 6-gallon humidifier (about 27 inches high when assembled). On uneven flooring or carpet, the whole assembly tilts slightly, water inside the 22.7L tank shifts to one side, and it escapes past the tank outlet or the top seal on the low side. This is the first thing the manual's troubleshooting guidance tells you to check when water appears down one side.
  • The water tank is not fully seated on the base — The tank must be pushed down fully so its outlet seals against the base. If it's resting partway on the rim or a handle is caught underneath, the outlet seal doesn't close completely, and water seeps out one side once the pump starts moving water.
  • Excess water left on the tank or its handles after a sink refill — The 6000S is designed to be refilled from the sink with the included hose, and water collects in the handle wells and along the tank rim during filling. When you put the tank back, that trapped water runs down the outside of the tank and pools on the floor on one side, looking like a leak.
  • A cracked tank or a worn outlet seal — A hairline crack in the 6-gallon tank (often from being over-tightened, dropped, or handled roughly when full) or a deteriorated rubber gasket around the water outlet leaks only when the tank is full and pressurized, so it can appear as a side leak that comes and goes.
  • Condensation collecting on the unit in a humid room — The 6000S is an evaporative humidifier that outputs up to 1,500 mL/h. If the room is already humid or airflow is poor, moisture condenses on the cabinet and drips down one side; the manual notes that the area around the humidifier can become damp when humidity is too high, and advises improving ventilation.

How to Fix

  1. Place the humidifier on a flat, level surface — Move the unit to a hard, level floor or a sturdy platform, and make sure all four casters sit flat with the unit not rocking. If you're on carpet, use a rigid mat or board under the unit. Run it for a while and confirm water stops pooling on one side.
  2. Remove and fully reseat the water tank — Lift the tank straight off, inspect the rim and outlet area, then set it back down and press firmly until it sits flush against the base with no gap. Make sure no handle, hose, or debris is trapped under it, and that the arrow on the tank lines up with the arrows on the base and the top filter assembly.
  3. Wipe down the tank before replacing it — After refilling at the sink, dry the tank's rim, sides, and handle wells with a towel before seating it on the base. If the leak appears only right after refills, trapped refill water is almost certainly the cause.
  4. Inspect the tank and outlet seal for cracks or damage — Empty the tank and examine it under good light, especially the bottom edges and the outlet fitting, for hairline cracks. Check the rubber gasket around the outlet for tears or hardening. If you find damage, contact Levoit support for a replacement tank or seal — don't try to patch a pressurized 6-gallon tank with sealant.
  5. Reduce condensation in humid rooms — If the "leak" is condensation, turn the fan speed down (or run Sleep Mode), open a door or window for airflow, or move the unit to a more ventilated room. The manual specifically recommends lowering fan speed and improving ventilation when the area around the humidifier stays damp.
  6. Contact Levoit support if the leak continues — If you've leveled the unit, reseated and dried the tank, and checked the seals but water still appears down one side, stop using the unit and contact Levoit at [email protected] or (888) 726-8520 with your order invoice. Leaks caused by a defective tank or seal are covered by the 2-year limited warranty.
