How to Fix No Pen Pressure in Apps on the Huion Kamvas Pro 27 (144Hz)

💻 Device: Huion Kamvas Pro 27 (144Hz) 🗓 Added

Causes

  • WinTab32.dll was not installed or replaced correctly — The Huion driver delivers pressure to Windows drawing apps (Photoshop, SAI, Clip Studio Paint, and older titles) through the WinTab API. Huion's troubleshooting article explains that when the driver's Software Diagnosis shows a WinTab32 version other than 9.00.00.01, the WinTab file replacement failed and apps receive no pressure data at all — the pen moves the cursor but draws flat, constant-width lines.
  • The app is using the wrong input API (WinTab vs. Windows Ink) — Photoshop, Illustrator, and SAI can receive pen input through either WinTab or Windows Ink. If the app is bound to Windows Ink while the driver is delivering WinTab data (or vice versa), you get cursor movement but no pressure response. This is a classic cause of "pressure works in one app but not another."
  • Photoshop hardware acceleration is disabled — On the Kamvas Pro 27 (144Hz), Photoshop's pen behavior and multi-touch depend on the "Use Graphics Processor" option (Edit → Preferences → Performance). When it's unchecked, pressure can silently stop working in Photoshop, especially after a fresh install or update.
  • Outdated driver after an OS update, or macOS permissions not granted — A Windows or macOS update can break the driver's pressure mapping until the latest driver is installed. On macOS, the Huion driver must be granted Accessibility permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security — if the prompt was missed during install, pressure (and sometimes the pen itself) won't register.
  • Per-app driver profile with pressure disabled or a reset pressure curve — The V20 driver lets you configure pen settings per application. A per-app profile with pressure disabled, or a pressure curve reset after a driver update, can make pressure appear broken in one specific program while working fine everywhere else.

How to Fix

  1. Run Software Diagnosis in the driver — Open the Huion V20 driver, go to the settings/diagnosis area, and click "Software Diagnosis." Check the WinTab32 version: it must read 9.00.00.01. If it doesn't, click "Repair" to reinstall WinTab32. For WinInk, click "Repair" only if it shows "Not Running" — do not repair it if it's already running.
  2. Close WinTab32-associated processes — In Software Diagnosis, check the "WinTab32 associated process" list and manually close any programs listed there (save your work first), then reopen your drawing app and test pressure again.
  3. Enable WinTab in older Photoshop versions — For Photoshop CS6 and earlier with the correct WinTab32 version but no pressure: in Photoshop go to Edit → Preferences → General (or the Wacom/pen section) and click "Enable" for WinTab. For SAI and other legacy apps, make sure the app isn't forcing Windows Ink as its only input source.
  4. Match the input API in the driver and the app — In the Huion driver's per-application settings, select the app you're using and toggle between WinTab and Windows Ink modes, then test pressure in the app after each change. Do the same in the app's own pen/brush settings if it exposes an input API option. Use the mode that makes brush size/opacity respond to pen force.
  5. Enable Photoshop's GPU acceleration — In Photoshop, go to Edit → Preferences → Performance, check "Use Graphics Processor", and restart Photoshop. This restores full pen pressure and multi-touch behavior on the Kamvas Pro 27 (144Hz).
  6. Grant macOS Accessibility permission — On macOS, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and make sure HuionTablet (or the Huion driver) is enabled. If it isn't listed, uninstall and reinstall the driver, then approve the prompt when it appears. Restart the driver afterward.
  7. Reinstall the latest driver — If diagnosis shows a healthy WinTab32 but pressure is still flat everywhere, do a clean reinstall of the newest driver from huion.com/download: uninstall the old one, delete leftover folders, restart, then install with the tablet disconnected, drawing apps closed, and antivirus off. Reboot and reconnect.
  8. Test in a second app, then contact Huion if needed — Verify pressure in another program (e.g., Krita, Clip Studio Paint, or the driver's own pen test area). If pressure works in one app but not another, it's an app/API setting; if it's flat in every app after a clean driver install, email [email protected] with your S/N (back of the unit), order number, OS version, driver version, and app versions — a faulty pen or digitizer is covered under warranty.
