Causes
- NVIDIA video color range set to Limited (16–235) instead of Full (0–255) — Huion's official support article for the Kamvas Pro 27 pins this down: when the desktop GPU pushes a limited-range RGB signal, the 27-inch 4K panel renders it washed out and grey. The factory-calibrated panel (3D LUT, ΔE < 1) expects a full-range signal, so the mismatch between the NVIDIA output range and the panel's assumed range is the #1 documented cause of the grey screen on this specific model.
- HDMI/DP output dynamic range defaulting to Limited on new installs — Windows, driver updates, or a newly connected display can silently flip the output dynamic range to "Limited." Because the Kamvas Pro 27 (144Hz) is a wide-gamut, factory-calibrated display, a limited-range signal is immediately visible as a hazy grey veil rather than deep blacks — unlike a typical office monitor where the difference is subtle.
- Video signal passed through an adapter or receiver that degrades color range — If the 27 runs through an HDMI switch, docking station, or a non-standard adapter chain before reaching the GPU, the signal can be re-encoded with limited range or reduced color depth, producing the same grey appearance even when the GPU settings look correct.
- GPU color settings overridden by a game, HDR toggle, or video playback app — Applications that take over video color controls (HDR on/off, NVIDIA "video color settings" per-app overrides, or a media player's output range setting) can apply limited range to the display while you draw, making the grey look intermittent — fine on the desktop, grey inside Photoshop or a video player.
How to Fix
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel — Right-click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel (if you don't see it, install the NVIDIA driver from nvidia.com or via Windows Update and restart). This is the exact fix documented by Huion for the Kamvas Pro 27 grey screen.
- Go to "Adjust video color settings" — In the left-hand menu under Video, click "Adjust video color settings".
- Select the Kamvas Pro 27 as the target display — At the top, choose "Kamvas Pro 27" from the display dropdown so the color settings apply to the pen display and not your main monitor.
- Switch to "With the NVIDIA settings" — Select the "With the NVIDIA settings" radio button, then click the "Advanced" tab below it.
- Set Dynamic range to Full (0–255) — In the Advanced tab, change Dynamic range to "Full (0-255)", then click "Apply". The grey wash should disappear immediately — blacks become true blacks and colors regain their calibrated punch.
- Repeat for AMD or Intel graphics if applicable — On an AMD GPU, open AMD Software (Adrenalin) → Settings (gear icon) → Display, select the Kamvas Pro 27, and set the color depth/output range to Full RGB; on Intel Arc/iGPU use the Intel Graphics Command Center → Display → Color and set the range to Full. - Remove adapters from the video chain and re-test — Connect the HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4 cable directly from the GPU to the Kamvas Pro 27, bypassing docks and switches, then re-check the color settings. If the grey returns only through the adapter, the adapter is re-encoding the signal with limited range — keep the direct connection or replace the adapter with a known full-bandwidth one.
- Reset the display OSD and contact Huion if it persists — If the screen is still grey after the GPU range fix, open the OSD menu, go to Other → Reset (or restore factory defaults) to clear any stuck display-driver-board state, and confirm the OSD is set to the correct color space for your use (Native mode for unrestricted adjustment).
