How to Fix OCuLink eGPU Not Detected on the GMKtec EVO-X3

Causes

  • OCuLink cable not fully seated — the proprietary connector requires firm, even pressure until the retention clip clicks on both the mini PC and the eGPU dock side
  • BIOS PCIe bifurcation or hot-plug settings not configured for the dedicated OCuLink (PCIe Gen4 x4) port, leaving the slot in a disabled or low-power state
  • Power sequencing conflict — the eGPU enclosure must be powered on and stable before booting the EVO-X3, or connected after Windows has fully loaded (depending on the enclosure's hot-plug support)
  • NVIDIA / AMD GPU driver conflict from a previously installed internal GPU driver, causing the eGPU to initialize to a code 12 (insufficient resources) or code 43 error in Device Manager
  • Insufficient power delivery from the eGPU enclosure's PSU when driving a high-wattage card (RTX 4090 / 5090) through the OCuLink connection

How to Fix

  1. Completely shut down the EVO-X3 and the eGPU enclosure. Disconnect both from AC power for 30 seconds to discharge residual capacitance.
  2. Inspect the OCuLink connector on both the EVO-X3 and the eGPU dock. Wipe the contacts with a lint-free cloth and 99% isopropyl alcohol if any debris is visible, then reconnect firmly until the retention clip engages.
  3. Power on the eGPU enclosure first, wait for its fans and indicator lights to stabilize (typically 10–15 seconds), then power on the EVO-X3.
  4. Enter the BIOS by pressing Del during boot. Navigate to AdvancedPCI Subsystem Settings and ensure the OCuLink port is set to Enabled with PCIe Gen4 selected as the link speed (not Auto, which can fall back to Gen1 on some docks).
  5. Disable Above 4G Decoding temporarily if using an NVIDIA GPU — this resolves some code 12 resource conflicts. Re-enable it after the eGPU is detected if you need Resizable BAR.
  6. Boot into Windows and press Win + XDevice Manager. Expand Display Adapters. If you see a code 12 or code 43 on the eGPU, right-click it → Uninstall Device (check "Attempt to remove the driver for this device") and restart.
  7. If detection still fails, install DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) from safe mode, completely remove both the iGPU (Radeon 8060S) and any previous eGPU drivers, then perform a clean install of the latest GPU driver for your eGPU card.
  8. For persistent issues, try a different eGPU enclosure or OCuLink cable. The EVO-X3's OCuLink port is rated for PCIe Gen4 x4 — cables longer than 1m or low-quality adapters can cause signal degradation that prevents link training.
