Causes
- The card isn't actively connected to the phone over Bluetooth — the CARD Point plays its ringtone through its small built-in speaker, and the Find Hub app only sends the ring command while the card is within Bluetooth range and connected. When the app reports the card as ringing but no sound comes out, the usual culprit is a dropped or never-established BLE connection — the card briefly fell out of range, the phone's Bluetooth stack glitched, or the connection was never re-established after the app restarted. Chipolo's reset and reconnection guidance explains that when the ring button fails to act, the chipolo and phone are no longer actively connected and need a fresh connection.
- The ringtone is being muffled by the wallet or card sleeve — the CARD Point's speaker fires out the face of the 2.4mm-thick card, and owners routinely play sound with the card buried in a thick bifold, an RFID-blocking wallet, or a tight card sleeve. The small speaker is already quiet, and a covering flap or stacked cards absorb most of the output, so the ring plays but is inaudible from more than a foot away. Reviews note the Card Point should be lifted free of the wallet to hear the ring clearly.
- Low or stressed battery weakening speaker output — as the sealed battery sags near the end of its ~2-year life, the speaker's output level drops noticeably before the card dies completely. A card that used to ring loudly and now barely squeaks, especially one showing a low battery alert in the Find Hub app, is usually reporting a weak cell rather than a broken speaker.
- Cold temperatures dampen the small speaker — independent reviewers and user reports note that Chipolo's card trackers ring noticeably quieter, or sometimes do not ring at all, in low temperatures. A card kept in a bag or car overnight in cold weather can fail to produce sound until it warms up, even though the app shows it ringing fine.
- The card is stuck in a state that suppresses re-ringing — if a ring was started and not properly stopped, or the card received a stop command the app didn't acknowledge, the card can remain flagged as 'already ringing,' so subsequent ring attempts in the app appear to fire but produce no new sound until the state clears.
How to Fix
- Bring the phone close and wake the card — get within a couple of feet of the card and press its button once to wake it, then tap the ring button in the Find Hub app again. A one-time press also stops any active ring. The ring only carries over Bluetooth, so range and an active connection are the first things to confirm.
- Lift the card out of the wallet to ring it — remove the CARD Point from the wallet, card sleeve, or passport holder before pressing ring. This is the single most effective fix when the cause is a muffled speaker: the card rings clearly in free air, and you can hear it across the room. If it rings fine out of the wallet but not inside it, the wallet was absorbing the sound.
- Reset the Bluetooth connection between card and phone — Chipolo's reset procedure for a card that won't ring: restart your phone (this resets the phone's Bluetooth), make sure Bluetooth is on and the phone has internet access, reopen the Find Hub app, then press and hold the card's button until it beeps once to force a reconnect. Wait about a minute and try ringing again — most dropped-connection cases resolve this way.
- Toggle the card's pairing in the Find Hub app — if the card still shows as connected but won't sound, remove the CARD Point from the Find Hub app (tap the card → settings → Remove), then press the card's button and re-add it through the Fast Pair popup. A fresh pairing clears any stale 'already ringing' state and re-registers the speaker command channel.
- Warm the card up if it was in the cold — if the card sat in a cold bag, glovebox, or coat overnight, bring it indoors or hold it in your hand for a few minutes to warm it, then retry the ring. Card tracker speakers commonly under-perform or go silent in low temperatures, and output returns once the card warms.
- Check the battery level and renew if low — if the card rings weakly or not at all and the Find Hub app shows a low battery alert, the sealed battery is near end of life. The CARD Point's battery is not user-replaceable, so use Chipolo's Renew and Recycle program (chipolo.net/renew): register the card and Chipolo emails a 50% discount code for a replacement when the battery runs out.
- Factory reset the card as a last step — if ringing still fails after re-pairing, reset the card: press and hold the button for 30 seconds until the card beeps in 1-second intervals, release right after the 5th beep, and wait for the confirmation sound. Then re-add it through the Find Hub Fast Pair popup. If the card still produces no sound after a fresh reset and warm-up, the speaker unit itself may need a warranty replacement.
