Causes

  • HDRi left on for non-HDR content — the EX2780Q's HDRi feature constantly judges the image and re-tone-maps contrast and saturation. On everyday SDR desktop or game content HDRi can lift the black level and flatten saturation, producing the washed-out, milky look owners describe.
  • Wrong picture mode for the source — leaving the monitor in an HDR mode (DisplayHDR) or in one of the punchy modes like Vivid while the game or OS is sending a normal SDR signal forces the panel to over-gain the mid-tones, so colors look pale and bleached instead of richer.
  • Brightness Intelligence Plus adjusting the image — B.I.+ detects ambient light and scene content and continuously shifts brightness, gamma, and even color tone. In a bright room or on dark scenes this automatic adjustment can wash color out or make the screen look hazy compared to a fixed setting.
  • Limited vs full RGB range mismatch over HDMI — if the PC or console is outputting low/high (limited) video range while the EX2780Q expects full range (or vice versa), blacks lift and the whole picture loses contrast and looks faded. This is most common on the HDMI inputs and after switching devices.
  • Wrong color temperature or color space — the default warm/cool color temperature or an incorrect color space/color gamut selection can leave colors looking flat, greyish, or over-cyan/over-red on this 95% DCI-P3 IPS panel.

How to Fix

  1. Turn off HDRi for normal use — press the joystick on the back or the remote, open the Picture menu, and set HDRi to Off. This stops the auto tone-mapping that flattens SDR colors. Only switch HDRi/HDR back on when viewing true HDR content (games/apps flagged HDR), not for everyday desktop.
  2. Select a Standard or Game picture mode — in the Picture > Picture Mode menu choose Standard or Game rather than Vivid or an HDR mode. A neutral mode restores normal saturation and black level; then tune only brightness to your liking.
  3. Disable Brightness Intelligence Plus — in the Picture > Brightness Intelligence Plus (B.I.+ or Brightness Intelligence) menu set it to Off. This removes the ambient-light auto-adjustment that causes washed-out, hazy shifts during use.
  4. Set the correct RGB / video range for your source — in the OSD look for a Color or HDMI RGB PC Range option and match it to your device: choose Full (0-255) for a PC and Limited (16-235) for most consoles/STBs. Set the same range on the device's own graphics settings so they agree, which restores deep blacks and contrast.
  5. Check color temperature and color space — in the Color menu set Color Temperature to Normal and confirm the color mode/gamut is set to the standard option rather than an over-saturated mode, then re-tune saturation only slightly if needed.
  6. Factory-reset the OSD as a final step — from the OSD System menu choose the reset/factory-default option to clear every hidden auto-enhancement, then re-apply only the picture mode and RGB range you need. If colors are still faded on two different cables/inputs, the panel or its color profile may be faulty and worth a warranty check.
