Causes
- The overload protection switch has tripped — this is the first thing Anker's own F3800 troubleshooting guide checks. The F3800 Plus has a resettable overload protection switch on the AC input path; if a surge or a heavy load tripped it during a previous charge, the unit stops accepting AC input entirely until the switch is manually pressed back down. Owners report the unit simply stops charging from the wall with no error code on the display.
- The battery cells are below 10°C (50°F) — the F3800 Plus restricts charging current when cell temperature is low. Anker documents that charging power drops to around 680W (and in colder conditions, effectively stalls) when the cells are under 10°C. Units kept in an unheated garage or delivered in cold weather can look like they refuse to charge at all.
- A loose or faulty AC charging cable, or a dead/undersized outlet — the F3800 Plus draws up to 15A (1,800W max) from the wall. A worn cable, a half-seated plug, a tripped household breaker, or a power strip/extension cord not rated for 15A will stop charging even though the display looks normal. The AC input port on the unit can also work loose over time.
- The unit is in deep sleep or shut down at a critically low battery level — when the battery drops to 1% or lower the F3800 Plus automatically powers off and will not accept charging until it is woken. The MCU also enters sleep mode by default after 12 hours of inactivity; if the main power switch is off, the unit won't charge. A fully drained unit needs to be revived before AC input is accepted.
- A firmware or hardware initialization fault — in a widely reported out-of-the-box case, a new F3800 Plus would not charge from 120V AC nor discharge through AC output, while DC output worked fine and the display only showed charge level and Wi-Fi status. Firmware updates failed repeatedly even after a pin reset, which points to a stuck firmware/hardware initialization rather than a user error.
How to Fix
- Reset the overload protection switch — locate the overload protection switch on the unit (near the AC input area). If it has popped out, press it firmly back down until it clicks, then plug the AC cable in again and start charging. This is Anker's official first step for "F3800 can't recharge via AC."
- Verify the AC cable, outlet, and breaker — use the included AC charging cable and plug it directly into a known-good 120V wall outlet rated for 15A or more (avoid power strips and long extension cords). Confirm the cable seats fully into the AC input port on the unit. Test the outlet with another device and check your home breaker panel for a tripped breaker.
- Check the battery temperature in the Anker app — open the app, find the battery/cell temperature readout, and if the cells are below 10°C (50°F), move the unit to a warmer room and let it sit for 30-60 minutes before charging. Charging current will climb back toward the full 1,800W once the cells warm past 10°C. Expect slower charging in winter and don't mistake it for a fault.
- Wake the unit if it shut down at low battery — if the battery was at 1% or lower, plug in the AC cable and press the F3800 Plus IoT button to wake the unit; Anker's guide says to charge it back above 2%, then press the IoT button and reactivate via Wi-Fi to resume normal operation. If the unit was idle for 12+ hours, press the main power switch to wake it from MCU sleep before charging.
- Factory reset with a pin — with the unit off, insert a paper clip or pin into the reset hole for 1 second to perform a factory reset. Then reconfigure Wi-Fi in the Anker app and retry AC charging. This clears stuck firmware states that block charging.
- Update the firmware via the app — go to the Anker app → Settings → Device Info and install any pending firmware update on a stable 2.4GHz connection. Anker's June 2025 firmware included charging and safety improvements; an outdated firmware can leave charging logic in a bad state. Keep the app open and the unit powered on until the update finishes.
- Contact Anker SOLIX support if AC charging still fails — if the overload switch is reset, the cable and outlet are good, cells are warm, and the unit still won't take AC input (especially if AC discharge is also dead but DC works), the unit likely has a hardware or firmware fault. Upload logs via the app (Profile → Settings → Upload Log), and provide your order number, the serial number on the back of the unit, and a short video of the issue. Owners with this exact symptom received warranty replacements rather than a fixable user error.
