Causes

  • Loose or damaged power delivery — the M5's DC barrel jack, the adapter connector, or the power cord can work loose (especially if the unit is moved or the cable is strained), or the adapter wire can be internally damaged. ACEMAGIC's official FAQ lists a dead adapter connection as the first suspect when the power light is off, and the M5 has no internal battery — it relies entirely on that external adapter to boot.
  • Stuck or corrupted power state from Windows 11 fast startup — with Fast Startup or Hibernate enabled, the M5 writes the session to the NVMe SSD on shutdown. If that hibernation file gets corrupted (interrupted shutdown, power loss, Windows update), the machine can appear completely dead on the next power press even though the hardware is fine.
  • RAM or SSD worked loose, or an incompatible upgrade — the M5 uses two DDR4-3200 SO-DIMMs held in place by friction clips under the bottom cover, and two M.2 2280 slots (PCIe 3.0 + PCIe 4.0). How to Fix

  1. Confirm the outlet and the adapter first — plug the M5's power adapter into a known-good wall socket (test with a phone charger), and make sure the socket isn't on a wall switch or a tripped GFCI. If the power light stays off, reseat the barrel connector firmly into the M5's DC jack and the power cord at both the adapter brick and the wall — ACEMAGIC's FAQ flags loose adapter/cord/socket ends as the most common no-power cause.
  2. Press the RESET pinhole for 5-10 seconds — with the adapter connected, push an unfolded paperclip into the small RESET hole on the M5 and hold it 5-10 seconds. This is ACEMAGIC's first official step for a machine that won't power on; it clears a stuck embedded-controller state without losing your files.

  4. Reseat the RAM and SSD — shut down, unplug the adapter, and remove the bottom cover (screws under the rubber feet). If you recently added RAM or a second SSD, remove the new part first — a mis-seated or incompatible module stops the machine dead.
  5. Clear CMOS with the 40-second hold — with the adapter unplugged, press and hold the power button for 40 seconds to drain residual charge and reset CMOS.
