- The motorized 340° rotating head adds its own heat — the stepper motor that pans the camera lens generates heat every time it moves, including the automatic rotation toward detected impact zones during parking surveillance. On a sun-baked windshield, that motor heat compounds the thermal load inside the small 51.5mm body, making the Omni trip its overheat protection faster than a fixed-lens dash cam would.
- The camera stays off after cooling instead of rebooting itself — the most widely reported Omni symptom: after an overheat shutdown, the camera never automatically powers back on, even hours after the temperature drops. How to Fix
- Confirm it is actually a heat shutdown — the Omni sends a push notification when thermal protection switches it off. If you received the notification and the cabin was hot, the shutdown is heat-related, not a wiring or power fault. Check the notification history in the 70mai app under alerts to verify.
- Cool the camera down before trying to power it on — move the car to the shade or remove the Omni from the windshield, and wait 20-30 minutes for the unit to cool below the protection threshold. Then press the power button on the device. The camera will not respond to any power command while the board is still above the cutoff temperature.
- Cycle the ignition to wake it — if the camera is hardwired and still shows "being powered on" in the app, turn the car off and back on. Owners confirm the Omni "instantly powers on when the car turns on," so an ignition cycle reliably wakes a camera stuck in the after-shutdown state even when the app cannot.
- Test it on a 5V/2A wall charger — unplug the Omni from the car and connect it to a phone wall charger that outputs 5V/2A (the same spec as the included 12V adapter). If it boots on the wall charger, the camera itself is fine and the issue was thermal state plus car power; if it stays dead even after cooling on the bench, the internal battery or board may need service.

- Update the app and camera firmware — in the 70mai app, go to device settings → firmware update and install any pending update with the camera powered and the phone connected over the camera's Wi-Fi. Keep the app open until the progress bar completes, then let the camera restart. Newer firmware builds improve power-state recovery after thermal shutdown.
- Contact 70mai support if it never wakes up — if the Omni still will not power on after a full cool-down, an ignition cycle, and a wall-charger test, the internal battery may be degraded or the board may have a fault.
