71% of Americans oppose building an AI data center in their local area. That is not a close call. Nearly half 48% said they are strongly opposed. For context that is higher opposition than nuclear power plants have ever drawn since Gallup started tracking that question in 2001.

The smart play is not to fight the backlash it is to build in a way that does not deserve it.
